Hello! I am Neil, founder of the Silver-Fitness website and experience. Throughout my 61 years I have trained in fitness in some way, whether to be fit for my job or for the various sports Ive taken part in.
That journey in fitness has taught me a great deal and I have lots of successes and failures along the way to achieving my goal of being able to move, live and play safely and enjoyably as I grow older. My failures and successes have led me to creating this site, as I have a passion for helping others and I know I can help you achieve success in fitness in your older age.
Here is a bit of my background, and my story.
Staying Fit Throughout My Life has not been easy….
As an ex military man and Police Officer I was expected to maintain a level of fitness so I was able to carry out my job of protecting the public. While I really enjoyed both careers, they took an inevitable toll on my body. Growing up I played many sports, right through and into 50s. I am a qualified Triathlon Coach, I have also coached downhill skiing, Judo and Scuba Diving, so a varied coaching career across a broad spectrum of different sports. Now I’m into my 60th year, I have decided to really pay more of my attention to my health and staying fit and active as I grow older. I have had a number of operations on my knees and my shoulder, all related in some way to having an active lifestyle which has set me back in my fitness journey. As I have grown older I have also struggled with my weight too, and carrying around unwanted weight is not healthy for many reasons, but one of my main concerns has been the pressure it puts on my joints and heart.
Remaining fit into older age is a challenging goal for many, and for many reasons, but I know that by sharing my experiences with you that I can help you avoid the same mistakes I made along the way.
I can help you or anyone else you know get on track with their fitness through some simple strategies. Choosing the right exercise regimes (for you) can be so difficult. Many of the generic programmes seen online are not designed for the older generation, and do not take account of limited mobility, ongoing injuries and the need to recover more after strenuous exercise. I want to change that and show you safe ways to train, stay fit and active and enjoy life as you grow older.
